In his search for alternative cello sonorities, he played with groups devoted to popular music, and also studied composition and arrangements with Juan Carlos Cuacci.
Some of these groups are:
- Ruidos, duo of Victoria Polti (flute) and Rafael Delgado, performs a sensitive search from improvised explorations taking as a starting point works by Bach, Satie, Hermeto Pascoal, Gismonti and own compositions.
- Terca Pandora, string quartet that propose an atypical sonority by this type of agroupations, mediante la exploración de texturas rítmicas y tímbrica y la improvisación solista o colectiva. Aborda un repertorio de música popular latinoamericana que abarca el folklore argentino, la música peruana, brasilera y venezolana, el tango, el rock y el jazz. Pablo Pereira, Andrés Magula (violines), Dolores López Mac Kenzie (viola), Rafael Delgado (violoncello y arreglos).
- ARRE! Ensemble of Violoncellos, conducted by Claudio Peña and based on the system of improvisation for signs it is the first ensamble of violoncellos dedicated exclusively to the improvisation. It is integrated for Cecilia Quinteros, Marlene Exler, Ana Clara Payné, Gustavo Álvarez, Juan David Hernández, Virginia Callegari, Tomás Pallo, Rafael Delgado (violoncellos) y Amanda Irarrazabal (contrabajo).
- Sin Líneas en el Mapa, Latin American Music group founded in Peru.
They have recorded two CDs and a videoclip.
Its members are: Luz María Carriquiry Fry (voice, Eulogio Moros Tróccoli (voice, Venezuelan cuatro, and guitar), Victoria Polti (flute and aerophones, Leandro Cacioni (guitars), Sebastián Garay (bass), Jonatan Szer (percussion) and Rafael Delgado (violoncello and arrengements).
Rafael Delgado Espinosa also played with :
- 1992. Andrés Prado’ s Jazz Ensamble 1 with José Luis Madueño (piano), Néstor Benítez (saxophone), Gabriel Alegría (trumpet), Jorge Pérez Alvela (drums), Edgar Cuentas (bass), Marco Oliveros (percussion), and Carlos Ercoli (violin).
- 2005 - 2006 Estación Chacaíto, a group devoted to Venezuelan music, with Javier Sepúlveda (Venezuelan cuatro), Marisol Andorrá (flute), and José Santucho (violin).
- 2007 - 2008 Agua Pesada Tango, whose members are Daniel Fabiano (voice), Pablo Ciliberto, Pedro Kiszkurno (bandoneons), Andrés Magula (violin), Oscar Pittana (bass) y Gabriela Bernasconi (piano).
